Prime Minister Najib Mikati inaugurated the new Pharmaceutical Laboratories at the Industrial Research Institute.
The event was notable for the presence of key figures such as Ministers George Bouchikian (Industry), Firas Abiad (Public Health), Abbas Haj Hassan (Agriculture), Director General Bassam Frenn (Industrial Research Institute), Director General of the Ministry of Economy Mohammad Abu Haidar, Director General of LIBNOR Lena Dargham, Director General of the Ministry of Industry Chantal Akl and a host of other notable personalities.
Prime Minister Mikati emphasized the importance of the collaborative efforts between the Institute and various ministries, which aim to enhance public health and safety. He highlighted the critical role of maintaining high-quality standards to foster public trust in the Institute’s services.
Minister Abiad hailed the opening as a beacon of hope and a demonstration of Lebanon’s commitment to progress despite challenges. He urged continued collective efforts towards a healthier and more self-sufficient Lebanon.
Minister Bouchikian described the new laboratories as a major achievement for Lebanon’s economic and industrial sectors. He praised the Institute’s growth and the emergence of local pharmaceutical factories, encouraging further investment in this promising sector.
Dr. Bassam Frenn, Director General of the Industrial Research Institute, appraised the Institute’s 25-year journey from a small organization to a leading scientific institution with fifteen specialized laboratories. He underscored the Institute’s resilience amidst various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crises.
The new Pharmaceutical Laboratories aims to address concerns about drug quality and ensure that both imported and local pharmaceuticals meet stringent standards. Dr. Frenn highlighted the laboratory’s role in restoring trust in medications and combating substandard products.
